Experience a time past and the unique architecture of the Ancient Spanish Monastery of St. Bernard de Clairvaux. A registered Florida Heritage site built in Sacramenia, in the Province of Segovia, Spain, during the period 1133-1144 Cistercian monks occupied the monastery for nearly 700 years. The Cloisters were seized, sold, and converted into a granary and stable following a civil uprising in the 1830's.
In 1925 William Randolph Hearst purchased the Cloisters and the Monastery’s out- buildings. The structures were dismantled stone by stone, bound with protective hay, packed in some 11,000 wooden crates, numbered for identification and shipped to the United States. The 11,000 stones of the Monastery Cloisters were re-assembled in 1953 in what Time magazine called 'the world's largest jigsaw puzzle' at a cost of what would be over 12 million dollars today.
